About Us

Welcome to Montessori Academy of Slidell, where our dedication to nurturing young minds is rooted in the timeless principles of the Montessori method. Our school was founded by Kandace Miller, whose deep love for Montessori education inspired her to create a space where children could thrive.

Our Story

Montessori Academy of Slidell opened its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many schools and childcare centers were closing. Kandace recognized the urgent need for reliable and safe educational options for families in the Slidell community and responded by founding the school. It quickly became a haven for parents and children, offering consistency and care when it was needed most.

Our Programs

We offer four distinct programs, each tailored to the developmental needs of children at different stages:

Nido (0-12 months): A nurturing environment that encourages sensory exploration and the beginnings of independence.

Pre-Primary A (12-24/28 months): A program for toddlers focusing on movement, language development, and social interaction.

Pre-Primary B (24/28 months - 3.5 years): For children ready for more structured activities, including early academics and potty training.

Primary (Toilet trained 3.5-6 years, including Kindergarten): A comprehensive program offering a rich curriculum in math, language, science, and cultural studies, all rooted in Montessori principles.

Montessori Pedagogy and Its Importance

The Montessori method, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is an educational approach that prioritizes child-centered learning. It is based on the belief that children are naturally curious and possess an innate desire to learn. The Montessori pedagogy provides a carefully prepared environment where children have the freedom to explore, make choices, and engage in hands-on activities at their own pace. This approach fosters independence, critical thinking, and a deep love for learning.

Montessori education is particularly valuable in today’s world, where there is a growing need for individuals who can think creatively, solve problems, and adapt to new situations. In a community like Slidell, where we are focused on building strong, supportive networks, the Montessori method aligns perfectly with our values. It teaches children not only academic skills but also life skills—how to be responsible, respectful, and empathetic members of the community.

Montessori and the Slidell Community

At Montessori Academy of Slidell, we are committed to getting back to basics by embracing community values and fostering the "it takes a village" mindset. We believe that education is not just about academic achievement but also about building a strong, supportive community around our children. Our school is more than just a place of learning; it's a community hub where families come together, support each other, and work collectively to help their children grow.

Why Montessori Focuses on Independence

The Montessori method places a strong emphasis on independence because we believe that children are naturally curious and capable of directing their own learning. By allowing them to explore and discover at their own pace, we help them develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love of learning. Independence in Montessori is not about being alone; it's about empowering children to think for themselves, make decisions, and take responsibility for their actions within a supportive community.

Our Vision for the Future

Our big goal is to ultimately expand Montessori Academy of Slidell to serve students from Nido all the way to 12th grade. We are passionate about bringing the Montessori movement to Southern Louisiana and providing a continuous, high-quality education that remains true to Montessori principles from infancy through adolescence.

We invite you to join us on this journey, as we work together to create a thriving community where children can grow, learn, and become the best versions of themselves.
